Senior AAP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, has alleged that the BJP-led Delhi government is deliberately withholding the Private School Fee Regulation Bill to protect powerful private school interests. In response, she announced that AAP MLAs will immediately begin a citywide public consultation campaign to gather input directly from parents.

Delhi Parents Invited to Share Suggestions via Email
Atishi revealed that AAP has created a dedicated email ID
fee.consultation.aap@gmail.com where parents, legal experts, and citizens can submit suggestions. She assured that these inputs would be compiled and used to recommend necessary amendments to the bill once it is presented in the Delhi Assembly. “We fought against the education mafia while in government, and that battle will only intensify now that we’re in the Opposition,” she emphasized.

Daily Legislative Outreach Planned from Tuesday
Starting Tuesday, the AAP legislative group will hold daily meetings focused on this issue and meet with concerned parents. These interactions will form the basis of AAP’s stand in the Assembly. “We are committed to building a real movement one that ensures every parent’s voice is heard,” Atishi said.

School Fees Are Crushing Families, Says Sisodia
Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia took to social media to express solidarity with affected families. “When school fees threaten to crush a child’s future, staying silent isn’t an option,” he wrote. He accused the BJP of ignoring parents’ struggles and allowing private schools to hike fees without oversight. “Our fight will continue — on the floor of the Assembly and on the streets. AAP will remain the voice of every parent in Delhi.”

Unchecked Fee Hikes, Arbitrary Charges Hurting Middle Class

Atishi further slammed the BJP for turning a blind eye to steep fee hikes ranging from 20% to 80% imposed by private schools across Delhi. She highlighted how arbitrary charges such as for AC usage, swimming, and “activities” are being imposed without regulation. “Middle-class families are being financially drained just to ensure their children get a basic education,” she said.

Protests in 40-Degree Heat Ignored by Government
Highlighting the desperation of Delhi’s parents, Atishi mentioned how many have been protesting in the sweltering heat outside schools and the Directorate of Education, yet the government has remained indifferent. “Parents even approached the judiciary, but the courts stated they were powerless without an official directive. The government hasn’t even issued that,” she noted.

BJP’s Nexus with Private Schools Exposed
Atishi accused the BJP government of collusion with private school managements. “Ministers have offered nothing but false promises. Despite repeated complaints, not a single fee hike has been rolled back. This is not governance, it’s complicity,” she stated.
She cited a case where students were removed from a private school using hired bouncers an action she said was only addressed after intense public pressure.

Fee Bill Passed Secretly Without Consultation, Says AAP

According to Atishi, the BJP hurriedly cleared the bill in the Cabinet without sharing it with stakeholders — including parents, legal experts, or Opposition parties. “This was done secretly, without transparency, because the bill is designed to protect schools, not regulate them,” she said.

AAP to Carry People’s Voice to Assembly
Reassuring Delhi’s residents, Atishi affirmed that AAP will act as a bridge between parents and the legislative process. “The work the government should have done listening to parents and consulting legal experts will now be done by AAP MLAs. We urge parents to send their views to our email. We will raise every valid point on the floor of the Assembly and demand necessary amendments,” she said.

BJP’s Intentions Are Clear, But AAP Won’t Back Down

Atishi also criticized the BJP on X, saying, “Since coming to power in Delhi, private school fees have soared unchecked. When pressured, the BJP brought a bill to Cabinet but hid it from the public. Why? Because their intent is not to protect parents it’s to shield private school interests. But AAP will continue to fight for justice, from the Assembly to the streets.”
