Ankush Narang, Leader of Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), launched a scathing attack on the BJP during a press conference on Friday. He alleged that despite Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s claims that ₹820 crore had been released to MCD, not a single rupee has reached the civic body’s account so far.
Salaries Were Timely Under AAP, Now Delayed Again Under BJP
Narang stated that when AAP was in power in the MCD, all employees received their salaries promptly on the 1st of every month. However, within just two months of BJP’s return, salaries are now delayed by 10 to 20 days. He reminded the public that under BJP’s 15-year rule, sanitation workers were left unpaid for as long as six months.
“Four-Engine” Government, Yet Complete Administrative Failure
Highlighting that Delhi is now governed by a “four-engine BJP government” — at the Centre, in Delhi Government, MCD, and through the Lieutenant Governor Narang questioned why salary payments are still delayed. “If BJP holds all four levers of power, why is there still financial mismanagement?” he asked.
820 Crore Announcement an Eyewash?
Narang pointed out that BJP had claimed ₹3,282 crore was sanctioned to MCD, with ₹820 crore as the first installment. “Media reports and BJP leaders claimed the funds had been released, but MCD’s account shows zero credit. What are these thank-you videos for if the money hasn’t reached?” he asked.
Retired Staff Given Empty Envelopes; Dues and Pensions Still Unpaid
Narang exposed that 60 retired MCD employees were honored with a grand farewell at the Civic Centre, but their gratuity, PF, and other benefits — amounting to ₹100 crore — remain unpaid. Retirees reported receiving empty envelopes with no cheques inside. Pensions are pending for years, promotions under MACP are stalled, and even basic medical benefits are unavailable.
BJP’s “Mega Cleanliness Drive” Exposed as a Gimmick
He slammed BJP’s much-publicized “Mega Safai Abhiyan” as a failure. Garbage continues to pile up across roads and hotspots in the Central Zone. No new garbage trucks have been added, and public complaints remain unaddressed, he said.
BJP Must Fulfill Its Promise and Transfer ₹820 Crore Now
Concluding the press conference, Narang demanded immediate transfer of the ₹820 crore to MCD to ensure timely payment of salaries. “Rekha Gupta’s promise should not become another broken assurance like BJP’s failed promises of ₹2,500 for women or free LPG cylinders during Holi and Diwali,” he warned.
