
The sale of adulterated food items in large quantities in Delhi markets during the festive season should have been stopped by taking immediate action and arresting the culprits, but the government is not concerned about the health of the people. Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Shri Devender Yadav said that it was a matter of grave concern that spurious, adulterated food items such as ghee, spices, paneer, khoya and milk are being openly sold in the Delhi markets with the Government agencies responsible for preventing such malpractices keeping a blind eye, which Delhi Congress had pointed out last week when the market was flooded with buckwheat flour during the Navratra festival. He said that food adulteration is prevented by a joint effort between the Central Government’s Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Department of Food Safety of the Government of NCT of Delhi, yet the availability of such spurious items in the markets is very worrisome.
Racket indulging in such dangerous
Devender Yadav said that a major racket indulging in such dangerous malpractices are at work due to the laxity and collusion of the officials. He said that the people behind the supply of fake ghee from Jind in Haryana operate from Rohini where this spurious stuff is packed in wrappers of Milk Food, Madhusudan, Amul, Mother Dairy, Patanjali, Ananda’s yet the BJP Government in Delhi has failed to detect this racket. He said that both Haryana and Delhi have BJP governments, and it is not a secret that these Governments are not bothered about the health of the people. Devender Yadav said that although the police have seized a consignment of 2000 kg of spurious ghee in Delhi, the Cops have not revaealied the names of the people behind this racket. He asked Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to come clean in the matter and disclose what was the Delhi Government’s Food and Supplies Security Department is doing to prevent such adulterated food items from reaching the markets in Delhi. He said that two weeks ago, about 200 people from Jahangirpuri in Burari were hospitalized after eating adulterated buckwhat flour rotis during the Navratra ferstival,
Adulterated and spurious food
Devender Yadav said that adulterated and spurious food items are being sold in the markets with impunity without any check was a serious matter, which shows the failure of the concerned departments of the Delhi Government in catching the adulterators. He said that when the Government was aware of the fact that such adulterated foods are getting flooded in the market, it should have acted swiftly and caught the culprits, but the concerned Government departments seems to be least bothered about the health of the people.
Government should act tough against
Devender Yadav said that the government should act tough against the syndicates running the business of adulteration and counterfeit goods. He said that until strict laws are made to crackdown on traders of fake goods, people will continue to suffer and adulterators will flourish. He said that the CM has been announcing new schemes on a daily basis, but does not act against adulterators and such other crooks He said that unless unforgettable punishment is given to such people, people will continue to suffer.
