New Delhi: Delhi BJP President Shri Virendra Sachdeva, along with MPs Shri Manoj Tiwari, Shri Ramveer Singh Bidhuri, Shri Yogendra Chandolia, Smt. Kamaljeet Sahrawat, Shri Praveen Khandelwal, and Ms. Bansuri Swaraj, met with Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Shri Vinay Kumar Saxena today. They submitted a memorandum highlighting the artificial water crisis being imposed on Delhi residents by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab.
BJP Alleges Artificial Water Crisis Imposed by Punjab Government
The memorandum brought attention to the recent announcement by the Punjab government, led by AAP, regarding a reduction in water supply from Haryana’s Bhakhra Canal. The BJP leaders claim that the AAP’s actions have created an unnecessary water crisis for Delhi residents. According to the memorandum, there is no shortage of water in the Bhakhra Dam, but the Punjab government has decided to cut water supply to Delhi for political reasons.
Delhi Relies on Haryana for Over 50% of its Water Supply
The BJP also noted that Delhi depends on Haryana for more than 50% of its water supply, and during times of crisis, agricultural states prioritize their own needs. The party argued that the reduction in water supply was a calculated move to create unrest in Delhi and added to the political instability caused by AAP.
Appeal to Lieutenant Governor for Intervention
The BJP requested the Lieutenant Governor’s intervention to address the situation and ensure that Delhi does not face the water crisis allegedly engineered by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The leaders urged the LG to take necessary steps to prevent further escalation of the situation and to protect the water rights of Delhi residents.
