Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi state convenor Saurabh Bharadwaj, in a press conference held at the party headquarters, accused the BJP-led Delhi government of deceiving the women of Delhi by not fulfilling its pre-election promise of providing Rs 2,500 per month to every woman. He recalled that during the election campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with senior BJP leaders such as JP Nadda and Amit Shah, had made repeated assurances that this amount would be credited to every woman’s bank account starting from March 8, following the BJP’s first cabinet meeting. This promise, widely promoted as a “Modi Guarantee,” was a key part of BJP’s appeal to women voters.

However, Bharadwaj claimed that the actual implementation of the scheme reveals a very different reality. As per the latest information, the BJP government has imposed several restrictive conditions: the benefit will only be given to one woman per family, the eligible age has been increased from 18 to 21 years, and only women with BPL (Below Poverty Line) ration cards qualify. Additionally, women whose children are not vaccinated are also excluded from receiving the aid. These unexpected conditions, Bharadwaj said, have rendered a large majority of women ineligible — particularly those from the Poorvanchal region, who have migrated to Delhi and continue to struggle with bureaucratic obstacles in obtaining ration cards. He pointed out that even native residents of Delhi villages are being excluded due to the same ration card-related technicalities.

Bharadwaj further alleged that the government is planning to distribute only a partial amount of the promised Rs 2,500, holding back the rest for future disbursement at its discretion. He questioned this logic, stating that if this is being done for women, then ministers and officials involved in policy-making should also have a portion of their salaries withheld. He slammed the BJP for misleading voters, accusing them of creating a false narrative to win the elections. According to him, the foundation of the BJP government in Delhi is based on lies, manipulation, and distribution of freebies like alcohol, money, clothes, and other items during the election campaign. He concluded by stating that this might be the fastest any government has lost public trust, calling the BJP-led Delhi administration one of the most untrustworthy governments in recent history.
