The Congress party has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP president to apologize for repeated derogatory remarks made by BJP leaders targeting the armed forces, martyrs, and their families. The party accused the BJP of deliberately sidelining the role of defence personnel while trying to attribute the entire success of Operation Sindoor to the Prime Minister alone.

Speaking at a press conference at the Congress headquarters, All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba presented video clips showing BJP leaders, including an MP, the Deputy Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, and a minister, making disrespectful statements about the army and the families of fallen soldiers.

Lamba highlighted a recent controversial comment by BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana, Ram Chander Jangra, who questioned the bravery of the wives of tourists killed in the Pahalgam terror attack, implying that had they fought back, casualties might have been fewer.

She also condemned the online harassment faced by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri by BJP supporters for articulating the government’s viewpoint, as well as the trolling of Himanshi Narwal, widow of martyr Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who had appealed for peace and unity after the attack.

Expressing shock at the silence from Prime Minister Modi and BJP leadership on these issues, Lamba pointed out that although legal proceedings—including FIRs and an SIT inquiry ordered by the courts—are underway, the BJP’s protection of leaders like MP Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, minister Vijay Shah, and MP Ram Chander Jangra is troubling.

Lamba suggested these BJP leaders might be influenced by Prime Minister Modi’s own past statement comparing the courage of traders to that of soldiers, and played a recording of the remark during the briefing.

Reaffirming Congress’s demand for an all-party meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, she also called for a session of both houses of Parliament to discuss the success of Operation Sindoor. She questioned why a parliamentary session cannot be held domestically if opposition MPs are being sent abroad to explain India’s position internationally.

Finally, she noted complaints from residents living near the Line of Control in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, who felt overlooked by the Prime Minister’s speeches. In contrast, she mentioned that Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi had visited Jammu and Kashmir twice to show support to the people affected by the terror attacks and cross-border shelling.
