New Delhi: The Indian National Congress has raised strong objections to recent developments suggesting international involvement in the Kashmir issue. The party reiterated its call for a special session of Parliament and demanded an all-party meeting with the Prime Minister in attendance to discuss the matter in detail.
Commends Armed Forces for Precision Strikes
At a press conference held at the AICC headquarters, senior Congress leader and CWC member Sachin Pilot praised the Indian armed forces for their precise operations against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan. He acknowledged their bravery and professionalism in safeguarding the nation.
Questions Over US Role and Ceasefire Announcement
Pilot expressed concern over US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire before any official confirmation from India or Pakistan. He questioned whether the Indian government had agreed to third-party mediation, something traditionally opposed by India regarding the Kashmir issue. “There is an apparent attempt to equate India and Pakistan once again,” he said.
Seeks Details on Ceasefire Terms
The Congress leader asked the government to clarify the terms of the ceasefire and questioned its viability, citing renewed firing from the Pakistani side soon after the ceasefire announcement. He emphasized the lack of accountability and transparency in Pakistan’s military and political establishments.
Recalls 1994 Parliamentary Resolution on PoK
Pilot also referenced the 1994 unanimous parliamentary resolution that called for reclaiming Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, saying that it was time to reaffirm that stance, which had received support from across the political spectrum at the time.
Demands Transparency and Accountability
He urged the government to explain the rapid developments that led from US Vice President distancing his country from the issue to the President announcing a ceasefire. He also noted the timing of a substantial IMF loan to Pakistan, which he said added to the growing concerns.
Calls for Clear Answers from Government
Sachin Pilot concluded by insisting that the government owes a full explanation to the people of India and political parties that had united in support of the nation’s security interests. He pressed for immediate steps to clear public doubts and maintain the credibility of India’s foreign policy.
