Saurabh Bharadwaj, who himself was a minister in the Kejriwal government, should explain why his government failed to conduct a desilting audit and make its report public by 30 June 2024, despite the Delhi High Court’s order on 8 April 2024. Saurabh Bharadwaj should also clarify why no action was taken against the responsible leaders and officials for the deaths of 40 people who drowned due to waterlogging in 2024 alone. Delhi BJP President.Delhi BJP President Mr. Virendra Sachdeva said that Saurabh Bharadwaj, President of Delhi Aam Aadmi Party and reeling from election defeat, is now frustrated by the success of the BJP government’s arrangements for pre-monsoon cleaning of drains and sewers and the swift drainage of rainwater during the monsoon. He is resorting to baseless statements to vent his political frustration.
Sachdeva slams AAP over missing desilting audit
Mr. Sachdeva added that while demanding an audit of drain and sewer cleaning, Saurabh Bharadwaj conveniently forgot that the Delhi High Court, on 8 April 2024, had already ordered a desilting audit. This order came in response to a petition filed in 2018 regarding desilting scams during the Arvind Kejriwal government’s tenure. As per the order, the then Kejriwal government was supposed to conduct a third-party audit of desilting claims made by various departments and make it public by 30 June 2024 — which the government failed to do.
Seeks answers for 40 waterlogging deaths
Mr. Sachdeva emphasized that Delhiites witnessed the loss of nearly 40 innocent lives in 2024 due to waterlogging, and even after the High Court’s directive, the Kejriwal government did not conduct the third-party desilting audit. This clearly shows that for the past ten years, the Kejriwal government has been involved in a scam under the guise of desilting. Saurabh Bharadwaj, being a minister in that very government, must answer why the audit report was not made public by 30 June 2024, despite the court’s clear order. Mr. Sachdeva further demanded that Saurabh Bharadwaj must explain why no action was taken against the guilty leaders and officials responsible for the around 40 deaths caused by waterlogging in 2024 alone.
