The Delhi Transport Department has significantly intensified its anti-pollution drive across the national capital, sending a strong message that polluting vehicles will not be tolerated. Under the leadership of The Hon’ble Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, strict enforcement actions are being carried out while ensuring that citizens face no inconvenience in accessing essential services. The latest drive reflects the Rekha Gupta–led Delhi Government’s firm commitment to clean air and transparent, citizen-friendly governance.

Strong Action Against Polluting Buses and Goods Vehicles
As part of the intensified enforcement drive, the Transport Department impounded 28 goods-carrying buses in a single day, including several interstate vehicles found violating pollution norms. With this action, the total number of buses impounded this month for pollution-related violations has reached nearly 100. These steps are being taken to curb emissions from heavy vehicles, which are a major contributor to air pollution in Delhi, especially during the winter months when air quality deteriorates sharply.

Massive Vehicle Checks Across Delhi in 24 Hours
In the last 24 hours alone, enforcement agencies conducted widespread checks across the city. A total of 4,927 vehicles were inspected, highlighting the scale and seriousness of the drive. These inspections resulted in 3,970 challans being issued for various violations related to Pollution Under Control Certificates and GRAP norms. The Delhi Traffic Police issued a large number of challans, supported by Transport Enforcement teams and ANPR camera-based monitoring. At the same time, 238 vehicles were allowed to return to the roads only after full compliance, ensuring that enforcement is strict but fair.

Zero Tolerance for Irregularities at PUC Centres
Alongside action against polluting vehicles, the Transport Department has also tightened its grip on erring Pollution Under Control (PUC) centres. So far, 28 PUC centres have been suspended, while two centres have been cancelled outright due to serious violations. Action has also been initiated against two more centres. In a particularly serious case, a police complaint has been registered at Gokulpuri Police Station against a PUC centre accused of issuing forged PUCCs. These steps underline the government’s resolve to eliminate corruption and malpractice from the system.

Senior Officials Directed to Personally Inspect PUC Centres
Reinforcing the citizen-centric approach of the Delhi Government, Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh has directed senior officials of the Transport Department to personally visit PUC centres across the city. The objective is to ensure that vehicle owners do not face unnecessary harassment or delays while obtaining their pollution certificates. Officials have been instructed to immediately report any irregularity, deficiency, or inconvenience directly to the Minister so that swift corrective action can be taken.

Strict Enforcement With Citizen Convenience at the Core
Speaking on the ongoing drive, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said that the government’s approach balances firm enforcement with public convenience. He made it clear that action against polluting vehicles will continue without compromise, but at the same time, honest citizens should not suffer due to inefficiencies or corruption at PUC centres. According to him, clean air for Delhi and hassle-free, transparent services for citizens remain the top priorities of the government.

Action Against Forged PUCCs From Outside Delhi
To tackle the growing issue of forged Pollution Under Control Certificates issued to out-of-state vehicles, the Delhi Transport Department has also written to the Transport Commissioners of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. They have been urged to take strict action against violators operating in their jurisdictions. This coordinated approach is expected to plug loopholes and prevent polluting vehicles from entering Delhi using fake certificates.

Focused Drives at Congestion and Entry Points
Intensive enforcement drives were carried out at major congestion and entry points such as Kashmiri Gate, Geeta Colony, and Mori Gate. These areas were specifically targeted due to heavy movement of goods vehicles and higher chances of emission norm violations. The focus remained on identifying high-emission offenders and ensuring immediate action under GRAP guidelines.

Commitment to Clean Air and Accountable Governance
The Transport Department has reiterated that such enforcement drives, vehicle inspections, and strict monitoring under GRAP norms will continue rigorously in coordination with the Delhi Traffic Police. The Delhi Government remains committed to protecting the environment while delivering transparent, accountable, and citizen-friendly services. Under the leadership of Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, the Transport Department’s sustained efforts aim to ensure cleaner air and a healthier future for the people of Delhi.
