Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was cremated on Monday with full state honours at the Ramnathpara crematorium in Rajkot. His son, Rishabh Rupani, performed the last rites. Despite heavy rain, thousands of people gathered to pay their final respects. Vijay Rupani died in the Air India plane crash that occurred on June 12.

Tributes by Amit Shah and Other Senior Leaders
Before the cremation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Governor Acharya Devvrat, and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, along with several other dignitaries, paid tribute to Rupani. A state salute was given at the crematorium. A large number of common citizens also came to offer their condolences.

Identification Confirmed Through DNA Testing
Rupani’s body was severely charred in the plane crash, making visual identification impossible. On Sunday, his identity was confirmed through DNA matching. On Monday morning, in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the remains were handed over to the family with full honours and brought to Rajkot.

Massive Crowd at His Residence
When his mortal remains reached his residence in Rajkot, crowds lined the streets to bid him farewell. Supporters showered flowers and chanted slogans like “Vijaybhai Tum Amar Raho” (Vijaybhai, you are immortal). Thousands came for the final glimpse, including Union Minister for Jal Shakti, BJP state president C.R. Patil, Governor Devvrat, and CM Patel, who also paid their respects.

Emotional Farewell in Final Procession
At 5 PM, his final journey began from his residence and passed through major roads of the city before reaching the crematorium. The entire route was filled with mourners, and an emotional atmosphere prevailed as both leaders and the public bid their final goodbye.
