New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi met a delegation from the Progressive International at 10 Janpath, New Delhi, on Monday. Discussions focused on a wide range of global issues concerning democracy, social justice, and progressive collaborations.

Focus on Strengthening Global Progressive Alliances
Progressive International, an organisation founded in May 2020, aims to unite, organise, and mobilise progressive forces across the world. Since its launch, it has brought together over 100 organisations representing millions globally.
Photographs of the meeting were shared by the Congress party on social media, showing Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi engaging in discussions with the visiting delegation.

Rahul Gandhi’s Outreach Following Pahalgam Attack
Separately, Rahul Gandhi recently met Jammu and Kashmir’s former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar, following the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam. He also visited a victim injured during the attack at a Srinagar hospital.
Addressing the media, Rahul Gandhi emphasized that the attack was an attempt to divide society and stressed the need for unity across all communities to counter such threats. He assured full support to any decisive actions taken by the government in response to the attack.

Congress’s Response to Terror Attack in Pahalgam
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) convened on April 24 to deliberate on the serious terrorist incident in Jammu and Kashmir. Key leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Jairam Ramesh participated in the meeting.
Congress leader Pawan Khera confirmed that the government had accepted the party’s demand to convene an all-party meeting. He expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would personally attend, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
“The entire nation is seeking justice for the unarmed civilians who were attacked. It is critical that we collectively defend the unity, security, and integrity of India,” Khera remarked.

Background of the Pahalgam Attack
The Pahalgam attack, which took place at the Baisaran meadow, is considered one of the most severe terrorist incidents in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel.
